New to Pilates?
Worry not! We were all new once too!
We've been where you are, and taking that first step was the best decision we could have made. Pilates is a fantastic way to keep the body strong and lean, all while supporting increased energy, posture, and joint-health. Here's what you need to know to start off on the right foot!
Is Pilates for me?
Absolutely! Pilates is a safe, sane and supremely smart way to transform and align your body. It can ease back pain and tone trouble spots. While it is certainly challenging, it is designed for everyone, no matter your age, ability or body type. We work with everyone, from the completely sedentary and seriously injured, to professional athletes. We offer a custom, boutique experience with the best trained instructors in the city.
I've been practicing Pilates for about two years with Chris Hall and it's been a fantastic addition to my workout routine. I was a little worried when I started because I knew nothing about Pilates, but she immediately made me feel comfortable in her studio. I'm constantly amazed at how well she knows what I need to continue progressing so I can get the most out of each session, whether I'm doing a private class or a group class.
- Maryann PHow often?
To begin to see meaningful results, we recommend that you train 2-3 times a week. With this frequency you feel and start to see results in about a month. Your posture will improve and you'll feel simultaneously more grounded and energized. Not too shabby!
What should I wear/bring?
Comfortable, form-fitting clothes so your instructor can see your alignment to keep your form safe & effective. No shoes are worn for Pilates privates, duets, equipment or mat classes. Mats are provided.
I love Pilates. It is the one fitness plan I always come back to – the one I always get results from. I am passionate about it.
Studio 8 is filled with warm, genuine and inviting people. They’re there to help you achieve your personal best; what you really want to get from your body. I feel so fortunate to have found a fitness regimen that works so well for me. I feel so fortunate to have Chris and the other instructors.
Pilates has been a financial investment for me. But I feel confident knowing I can trust the body I’m in today; that it will give me the strength I need to conquer my daily life now — my life as a mom.
- Kristen QWHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PILATES EQUIPMENT AND MAT SESSION?
The main difference is that a mat class offers no added resistance to the workout. In a private, duet, or group equipment class, the added resistance from the springs will increase muscle mass and correct muscular imbalances more efficiently than on the mat.
